I am a mostly-retired research veterinarian.

Having been involved in many hobbies over the years (family joke) I started creating reed baskets in 2013 and discovered coiled pine needle baskets in 2014. Discovery quickly turned to fascination and I was fortunate enough to find some DVD training videos created by Nadine Spier (see Links page). They were an excellent resource for me in learning how to make pine needle baskets and I recommend them to anyone wishing to explore this type of basketry.

My background in science led me into experimenting with ways to clean and treat long-leaf pine needles and to develop other ways to refine the process of creating pine needle baskets. One of my hobbies has been woodworking so I decided to use wood slices for basket centers, which has become a personal trademark for my baskets.

I find making coiled pine needle baskets very relaxing and it also provides a place for my creative side. Sometimes I listen to music while working on baskets.

Many of my baskets reside with family and friends and some are now available for sale as well (see Purchase page).
